When creating collages, I make use of the detritus of civilization,- defunct stock certificates, obsolete maps, meaningless legal documents. With these surfaces I explore the gap between seeing and reading-Between the bodys involuntary response to visual stimuli and the minds concerted effort to recognize and understand.

Letting the paint brush move over the paper without the mind being involved, the work that develops becomes exploratory. One stroke conjures up another stroke and the picture makes itself- not unlike automatic writing or stream of conciousness, only this painting lives outside language and can really only be described as 'Visual Reaction'.
