Deixalles SóllerThe Deixalles foundation is a non-profit organization. Constituted in 1986 on the initiative of the Delegation for Social Action Diocesian Charity, and the organization of Small and Medium Businesses of Mallorca (PIMEM).

In 1991 Deixalles Sóller was formed with the objective of opening a waste centre in the Sóller area.

The Sóller centre was opened in July 1994 with the help of the Sant Bartomeu parish church of Sóller, the town hall, the Sóller Railway company, the Serra Group and the Sóller hoteliers association, under the coordination of the association of volunteers, Deixalles Sóller. These collectively form the SUPPORT COUNCIL, which has the mission of sheltering the project and ensuring the achievement of the fundamental objectives. In 1996 the Support Council was enlarged with the incorporation of the local Red Cross assembly and the Sóller association of commerce (PIMEM-Sóller).

OBJECTIVES

Deixalles has as its principal objective the insertion into society/work of people in situations of need or in risk of exclusion, using work, preferably in tasks related to the treatment of Solid Urban Residues, as an essential instrument in the channeling of a complete process of formation.

To each individual is given, within this objective, by means of individualized work, the opportunity to acquire and/or develop those personal or laboural aspects that allow them to improve their quality of life (responsibility, iniciative, self-esteem, discipline, manual habilities, alphabetization, health, etc.).

ACTIVITIES

The workshops in which the beneficiaries of Deixalles realise their activities have a dual funcion: social-therapeutic and the recuperation of solid residues

SELECTIVE COLLECTION

Furniture, white goods, clothes, doors etc. Basically all the household waste that, because of its size or characteristics cannot or should not be placed in a rubbish bin.

The majority of these objects are repaired and conditioned for sale in our shop.

Household collection can be pre-arranged by telephone, and for this service we have acquired a van and a lorry.

We must mention that those people that bring their own objects for recycling or re-use at our center are a great help.

COLLECTION OF PAPER AND GLASS FROM LARGE PRODUCERS

We do these weekly collections at hotels, restaurants, schools, commercial premises in the centre of Sóller and at the town halls of Sóller and Fornalutx.

COLLECTION OF GLASS IN BOTTLE BANKS

Another weekly service is the collection of glass from bottle banks in the streets of Sóller. We have 31 containers of 200 litres capacity each.

WORKSHOPS

The various materials that come from the selective collection feed our workshops, where we develop, through the treatment or transformation of the residues, the sense of social collaboration of the users of the foundation. The final destination of the recuperated objects is their sale in our own second-hand shop, or, failing that, once separated and classified into their individual components, are passed on to the adequate recycling plant.

CARPENTRY

The aims of this workshop are the restoration of collected furniture and the recuperation of old wood for the manufacture of new objects. The wood that is of no use to us is chopped up for use in stoves and fireplaces.

SELECTION OF PAPER AND CLOTH

These are classified according to quality and given the appropriate treatment.

THE 'GRAN VIA' PARKING LOT

The managment of the Gran Via parking lot helps us to realise our possibilities of incorporation into the workplace. It also provides a part of the income of Deixalles as a whole, something that involves many people and makes them feel that they are playing an important role in the task that Deixalles realises.

THE COLONIAL BUILDING OF 'SANT RAMON DE PENYAFORT'

The management of this building allows us to work on the practices of domestic cleaning and the maintanence and repair of buildings. It also provides the immediate solution, albeit temporarily, to the homelessness that some of the foundations users suffer.

VOLUNTEERS

DEIXALLES SÓLLER was born of the altruistic struggle of a group of people that formed the social project, that found the neccesary funding, conditioned the buildings and got the whole project off the ground.

At present the volunteers are giving their experience and energy to fields as wide ranging as, management, the different workshops, teaching, sanitary or therapeutic assessment, internal organisation, collaborating in the selective collection or, simply, becoming members of Deixalles Sóller.

If you would like to become a member of Deixalles please print and fill in the bankers order and take it to your bank.

Or simply make a donation to our bank account:
